I am new to this forum and also really new to coin collecting (by way of saying: if what I am about to ask is totally obvious, keep in mind that I am learning) I found this 1969 S penny in a roll I was looking at, and the date is clearly "doubled" to the naked eye - the photograph makes them look 100 times more obscure than they actually are. I tried to highlight them, but my photography skills have much to be desired. There's also a "double" underneath the bust line, and "double" underneath lincoln's nose (which I wasn't able to capture with the camera). What kind of error is this? No text is doubled, at least that I can see. It's in pretty rough shape. Thanks!
Looks like machine doubling to me or damaged digits since the coin looked like it took a beating JAZEC
The 69S DDO-1 ( big one) is shown at the below link. The letters and numbers are easily seen. http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/1969S1cDDFound.htm This site also documents a DDO-2 which is the final "9". You enter the year and mintmark and double died and can see the results. http://www.coppercoins.com/advsearch.php The photo doesn't have as much detail as one would like, but I would classify it as "machine doubling" at this point. Maybe if the photos were a little lighter and the date larger if possible. Jim
That is the coolest website EVER. Thank you for the link. There wasn't an example that reflected the penny I have, but I envision many early morning hours spent looking up double pics. I will try to take a better picture and repost. Thanks!
Welcome to the forum mspenny:hail: and did you know that on the reverse of your coin it says 'cent' not penny, although it seems the norm to use the term penny the proper use would be CENT.
