Time for a new "Post Your..." thread. If you just bought a smoking hot deal on a coin, post it! Tag and brag. I'll start. Last night I found this eBay Buy-It-Now. 1915-S PCGS MS64 Buffalo Nickel with a lamination for $460 shipped. The same coin had previously sold at Heritage for $750. PCGS retail price guide is $1850. But a semi-key date with color, for 75% back of retail? Take my money!

I wonder if that seller meant to price it at $1460.

I just got an 1858 UNC PL half dollar from the SS Central America for less than $400. There is practically no surface damage to speak of. I think I got it cheap since what I paid is the going rate for average crusty examples.



And then of course this lovely 1861 O FS-007 CSA Strike half dollar, which I got for about half the price of similarly nice examples.



Then I got a (probable) contemporary counterfeit 1853 half dollar for $75. Collectors of contemporary counterfeits know that this is super rare and worth far more.



And lastly, an 1918/7 D nickel for like $40 net.

 

A couple of them...I don't really call them cherrypicks since both were labeled on the slabs...
1826- 103 an R-5- which retails for about 450 in VF-30; paid 270. Not bad.



But for what I call "The Big One"

1827-124a an R-5+ which retails out at about 2500; paid 625.

 

Did you have to sell you soul to anyone in particular? Wow - find of a lifetime, and then some! Nice!!!!

 

These all came from the same seller. Arrived today. I paid $275 for the 1840, $250 for the 1871, and $58 for the Stone Mountain, which is an easy MS66 IMO.

 

PCGS MS62 Paid $465 raw.

 

I had just posted this in another thread, but it is an ICG MS62 RD, which most people think is actually MS65 RD. I paid $325 and price guide at MS65 is $1600. It’s much nicer than my actual MS65 RB CAC for which I paid twice as much.

 

That 1853 O half looks real. I've seen stars and letters like that before, but mainly only on 1854 and 1854 O halves. Hmm. Neat!

It occurs to me that this thread might also be valuable in determining whether you actually got a deal of the day or not. For instance, is winning an auction on the following medal at $47 shipped a decent deal, a normal price, or over paying?

I don't know a lot about these, the purchase was an impulse based upon my gut and appreciation for the design. What say you?

Not sure on value, but it certainly is a beautiful medal for less than 50 bucks.

 

Kind of my thoughts as well.

Hoping someone with knowledge of these can confirm or deny whether I did well or not.

I sent the pics to a friend of mine. He says it's a very nice Colombian Expo Medal. They made many different designs for the expo. That should give you a lead you do some more research.

 

I have seen a boatload of Columbian Exposition Medals. This is one of the nicer examples. A great design and in great condition. I would say you made a really good deal.

 

Can you tell if it's aluminum, white metal, bronze, etc?

Looks to be one of the Eglit-55 versions. I see $75+ (mainly graded though) so it seems like you paid a fair price.

This one is bronze. Didn't know that many alternate metals existed. From the link, it looks like only 2 or 3 per year come up. I'm not that knowledgeable of Heritage, but I see lots of folks referencing it. I guess that's another rabbit hole I need to investigate.

I'm a sucker for big high relief bronze medals under $50.

I got this one for $39 + $6 shipping from Portugal. Purchased on November 10th, it should be here tomorrow. Design by Leopold Wiener, the renown architectural medal engraver, and struck in 1861. I think I scored on this one. The Columbus medal above is 50.5mm. The one that follows is 60mm.

It's Elgin 55 Bronze. Pretty common, but yours is nicer than most.

 

Paid 100 which a friend thought was a steal - he things it’s a weak strike vs wear and higher than the XF 40 it was sold at. M just thrilled to fill a 7070 slot but would love to have gotten a deal
