Hi, I'm new here and have been trying to find the value of this coin ever since I got it. It was a graduation present I got a few years back from my grandparents. I don't know how they came by it, as it seems to have been sold by GovMint.com and they aren't particularly computer-literate. The coin itself is a 5 Rouble Russian coin from 1902. It came in a hard plastic case (from which I've never removed it, fearing that it may lessen the value). On the case is printed "1902 5 Rouble - Russian Empire - !CG-MS66 - St. Petersburg Mint". There is also what appears to be a bar code and a long number on the other side of the case. Accompanying the coin when I got it were a pair of documents, extolling the virtues of the coin and declaring that it was part of the Nordic Hoard, the inventory of Norway's gold reserves that narrowly escaped (on several occasions) being captured by the Nazis. It also includes a brief explanation of what Russian Imperial coins were doing in Norway in the first place. Both documents are signed by Nicholas J. Bruyer (which is why I assumed they were from GovMint.com, his website). One says the authentication was done by him personally, although the signature appears too tiny for him to have actually signed it with a pen. Can anyone tell me what this is worth? I cannot tell you the value of this coin as I am not familiar with it but it looks as if your coin was graded by ICG. This is the ICG MS66 part. The MS66 means that it is uncirculated and ranks 66 on a scale of 70. Also taking it out of the plastic would void the guarentee of this coin being a MS66. So keep it in there.
