Can you let us know your source for the $2K quote? Did you accidentally look up a different date/MM? The PCGS site shows an 1890-S in AU-55 to be $50. BTW - nice pick up, @GUNNER63736 !!! Nice present to yourself!
I agree with a previous poster. That Morgan is undergraded from what I see in the photos. At least MS-55, leaning more toward MS-58. Obverse appears to be about blemish free, no dings to the face, reverse looks very nice as well. A good deal at $45.00.
I know the Red Book isn't always, if any time, accurate about the cost, but I just looked up the 1890 S Morgan, and at the highest rating, it doesn't go to $1,000. $2K is a little bit high. If you like the coin, it doesn't matter what the rating is.
It was specifically graded at AU-50. Compared to AU-55 or AU-58 it was assigned a lower number, thus a lower AU grade. Get it?
