Hi Everyone, It’s been a little while. I’m currently in self-imposes isolation because a boy in my niece’s class tested positive and I was hanging around my sister last week. So, I decided it’s best to be overly cautious and just hang out at home by myself for a couple of weeks. I had just finished attempting to attribute the coins that Orfew gave me when I got distracted and my kitten got up and started to review my work and play with the coins. This resulted in one of them disappearing for a little while. I finally found this missing coin today! It was hidden under my coffee table inside one of the L shaped corners. I did the best I could with my limited problem solving skills. Lol. I welcome any corrections. A couple more to follow.
Hi Erin Hope you will be doing well in the following weeks. Nice run of coin, but why not rotate the pictures 90° ? Io Saturnalia Q
Erin, That looks like a nice haul ! Praise to Orfew ! Sounds like your kitten wants to start collecting coins . Enjoy your holidays & self imposed isolation .
The first one is clear from the legend and was made in the later, smaller size that did not start until after Constans was dead so you should get it easily. The hut coin could be either depending on legend but the photo is not clear. There is enough legend and the portrait shows which Licinius that is. Otherwise you are doing well. Keep working and it gets easier.
Your cat feels you were committing Cat law # 1. Never ignore me for other activity without snackies to eat while watching you. Cats Rule !!
Great HAUL, Erin! And super thanks to Andrew! Big fun attributing them. LOL, yeah, "cats". Had SEVERAL of them over the years, having 6 daughters. I had beaucoup of the critters due to them being barn cats, and had a few mousers for our old house (built in the US Civil War) as I was growing up. With that being said... yeah, I have been a DOG-GUY since I was a baby! (Personal experience...)
I've posted these before, but Zippy Kitty enjoys coin collecting (although she gave up on the notgeld coins because she couldn't read German)
Good work on attributing all those! Your numismatic skills and photography skills keep getting better. John
The first one, the FTR Falling Horseman, has an M in the reverse field and is thus from the 6th and last series, dated to 356-358. The Licinius is definitely senior. The delta in the reverse field is the officina, or workshop, number = 4. The one with facing bust is Arcadius, I can see the DIVS at the top of the unbroken legend. The other one is sadly in that category of never being unable to tell as the flan was too small for the die - very typical of this Two Emperors Standing, GLORIA EXERCITVS type. I believe that the Hut coins has too many letters visible for Constans and is therefore likely Constantius II. But you can only really determine that in person. I am glad that your cat only knocked your coin away. There are a few cases where the coin was eaten - leaving the owner with an unenviable task for the next few days...... SC
Thanks everyone for the help and encouragement! Gus Gus appreciates knowing that other cats collect too! Good news - my niece’s test came back negative! Such a relief. Here he is cuddling with his big brother, Bear. I have a lot of fun identifying coins and feel very accomplished when I get one right. Ancient coin collecting is so cool! I just wish I would have discovered the hobby a lot earlier. Have a great day! Erin
