Yep all my coins are slabbed. Heritage description for this coin was/is:

1858-S 50C MS65 NGC.</I> Ex: Richmond Collection. WB-103. The obverse die is blundered, with the base of an 8 buried in the rock above the 8 in the date. The reverse has a Medium S, as always with this obverse according to Wiley and Bugert. In Mint State grades, they rate this variety R.8. The present piece appears to be second finest known of the variety behind the Norweb coin, certified MS66 NGC.
This Gem has brilliant and bold surfaces with excellent design definition. The silver-white surfaces show only trivial scattered surface marks.
Ex Richmond Collection, Part III (David Lawrence, 3/2005), lot 1714.</B>
From The Grand Lake Collection.</B>(Registry values: N4719) (#6295)

    Thanks

What are y\they talking about with this 8? The 8 looks perfectly normal to me and nowhere near the rock.

Love that 50c. Better one great coin than 1000s of bummers.

If you look at the base of the rock there is part of an 8 in it. If you have a copy of cherrypickers they have a close up of it. Otherwise I can post it for you tomorrow.

LOVE the half dollar---but the Cents are pretty hot too!

I've posted this before...but the guy who put together the Richmond Collection once said:
"I didn't buy the best there was...I bought the best I could afford."

It is barely noticable but it's there. It looks like part of the rock. Once you see it though you can't miss it. I'll post a closeup tomorrow. On my phone right now.

Here it is. It's barely noticeable, it actually looks like it's part of the rest of the rock.

No, lower part of an 8, the 'bottom loop'.
I shouldnt have cropped it the way I did, will reupload with a complete view of the 8 in the date.
