the perth mint of australia produced a lot of modern silver, gold and platinum coins. these coins were very attractive. mintage were low. but very few people collect them as compare to u.s.. i like them all. what about you?. tell us.

I have a few Australian coins, both older circualted ones and a few modern ones made from collectors. SOme of them are pretty nice. Not sure which ones if any were specifically from the Perth Mint though.

To be honest my favorites were the pre-decimal large pennies with the kangaroo on them!

Next would have to be the silver 2000 Lunar New Year coin I have, love the Chinese dragon on it, plus it resembles a reverse-proof.

I also find the Perth Mint coins to be unique. I once had 1 kilo silver coin, year of the rooster coin, from the Perth Mint. In fact, it was the last coin I sold on eBay last May. I find the space coins to be unique as well. I guess my favorite Australian coin is the 1937 crown. But I really loved the 1 kilo rooster coin. Wish I'd kept it.

the perth mint products look very attractive. will it be very hard to sell it?. even the mintage is low. will it be just a bullion coin?.

    I will say this

dealing directly with the Perth Mint make dealing with the US Mint seem easy :)

I ordered an Octopus in December and expect delivery in March.

I have a few Treasures of Australia Sapphires, Opals, Diamonds and these coins were very very attractive. I think the Treasures of Australia Sapphires is the best. 2 years ago i paid 65$ - now cost around 350$ and the price all the time is going up.

When you have kids you get used to things like that...won't be my worse coin loss this year.

Aside which, I put it in his hand, along with a bunch of other coins. That is what collecting is all about, right? I wouldn't trade the coin for my friends kid and is educational experience in a million years. He can thumb my SLQ 1917 Type I if it puts a spark of learning and appreciation in his eye.

generally I look at the Royal Australia Mint's offerings before the Perth Mint's, but have bought from both thru Downies. Here's the 2004 Masterpieces in Silver collection from the RAM, and one of my favoite coins.
