The last 2 boxes of quarters I have searched have had a plethora of business strike San Francisco quarters in them. The 2 previous boxes netted another 10 or so. Mostly the same years. I have approximately 10 Frederick Douglass (District of Columbia) which has a mintage of less than 1 million.

CoinCorgi Tell your dog I said hi!

These aren't released into circulation by the mint, right? Someone dumped their rolls that they bought from the mint, right?

Wow, amazing finds! Does the fact they are minted in San Francisco mean they're silver?

I can't believe the things people are putting in circulation. Although, that could just be kids spending their parents collection.

Great question. No, not silver. SF made business strikeclad coins recently for the first time in decades

Correct. These were only sold by the mint in rolls or bags.

Nope these aren't silver and they aren't proofs. These are "business strikes" minted by San Francisco. Though they are only sold by the mint and not released into normal circulation...so not really a business strike IMO. They all pretty low mintages though.

I guess a better term is “NIFC.”

the striking process is “business strike” but they’re not intended for circulating

You are correct. I just don't like the "business strike" term when they are clearly not struck for use in business. But ya know....the mint gonna do what the mint gonna do.

I don’t like it either. Business strike implies a coin mean for commerce, not meant for filling mint coffers.

    ehhhhh
