I picked up a sheet of new Lincoln stamps on Tuesday. There are four different stamps in the set. They are nicely done. I'm putting mine aside with the proof Lincoln Commem. I ordered today. And if I order the set with the pennies I'll have that, too. Anyone else buying the stamps. Seems to me they're a natural addition.
I do not collect stamps but why not. I got the first flight pack when I got the first flight commemorative. BTW Do any stamp collectors know the values on these?
Stamps have limits, like coins. If you don't get them while they are issued, they're gone. As so many have said here, Lincoln has great popularity, probably always will. Anything original like this can't be a bad investment. By the way, I once saw an original oil portrait of Licoln in the office of a lawyer in Essex, CT. I can hardly describe how beautiful it was. The painting had to be about four feet tall and it just looked surreal. Rarely has a painting gotten into my head like that one did. It's cool that the Mint and the Post Office came together with comemmorative offerings.
Ordered some of these from USPS website. Thought they'd be cool with the stamps and coins. http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/sto...10152&storeId=10001&productId=43505&langId=-1
I have been clipping all the Lincoln stuff out of the paper and I want to put together a nice framed set that will include the stamp even though i am not into it
I'm glad you guys are enjoying the stamps. The Mint now has the send date as 4/1 for the Lincoln commemorative coin. I ordered my proof within the first 1/12 hours! Wonder if I have to wait that long, too.
The lincoln commemorative is back-ordered. Got a few on backorder myself. The stamps are nice as they are very similar to the 2009 Lincoln cents, depicting 4 phases of Lincolns Life, Laborer, Lawyer, Politician and President.
HarryJ, I hadn't picked up on the corresponding themes between the stamps and the new cents. Good pick up. Thanks for pointing that out. The more I think about it, I realize I will be looking out for the proof set of the pennies when the Mint releases them.
You know guys, I was interested in stamps up until the time they became Avery labels. Stopped picking them up after that.
My family has postmasters in it going back a long time. my mother is a postmaster, all the way back to her great-grandfather (my great-great) anywho... i have stamps in my blood Mine is the first generation not in the postal service ;( I digress (which i am want to do) the new Lincoln stamps are amazing little works of art! I purchased two sheets of them. One I plan on saving. The other I plan on using to send hand-written notes to old friends to reconnect. in this day of email and instant messaging a hand written letter can have a lot of impact.
