This is an incredible group, and it's almost impossible to pick my favorites. Perhaps the griffin, the Juba & crocodile, and the Trajan sestertius. But I would love any other trio from the group just as much! I like griffins (or gryphons, as I prefer to spell them!) too; here are two of mine, an L. Papius Republican denarius with Juno Sospita on the obverse, and a Gallienus zoo coin:
The Juba/Cleopatra and Trajan coins are out of this world. I've been looking for a high quality Trajan with that reverse type for some time.
Fantastic top 10 @eparch with great variety! All are beautiful, but my favourites are the Nagidos stater, the Kyzikos tetradrachm and the Trajan sestertius! Congrats!
Great selection! That Caracalla and Domna is really nice, and the Gyrton is a great example of the type, but my favorite has to be that wonderful Juba II with the crocodile reverse.
I’m torn between the Juba and Caracalla. The Trajan is fantastic as are the others but I can’t wander into sesterii. I just can’t. The Juba has a striking design and Cleopatra’s name so clear which is great. The Caracalla and Julia Domna is probably the finest I have ever seen.
Thank you all for your kind comments. I agree with you, but this is the pursuit of perfection ! This one seemed good enough at 30 euros. You are right - it took me years to find this one. Persevere ! If you search, there are a lot of decent examples out there and the overall quality - strikes and all - seems high. There is a lot of interesting stylistic variation between dies. Mine has a rather severe and serious Aphrodite compared to some. Collectors often refer to any coin not made from precious metal (i.e. gold, silver or electrum) as bronze. . Many actually are made of bronze but some might be brass, copper etc.
Wow, what a group! I would have to pick 1, 2, and 3, in no particular order, as my faves (If I did have to pick an absolute favourite though, it would be the Nagidos. Double portraits and they're both great, doesn't get much better than that)
