I'm thinking of buying the 2008 One Dollar set from the Mint at 37.95. It is the only way to get an '08 burnished Eagle from the Mint. Anyone think this is a good idea? The '08s might have a lower mintage than the '07. Thanks
Some prople here may tell you it's a good idea and some may tell you it is not. But it is your money, not ours you will be spending. If you only want the ASE check prices on E-bay or some other internet dealer. If you want something it depends on how bad you want it and how much you are willing to pay.
If you're just wanting the eagle then you can get one probably about $10 cheaper than the dollar set. If ya want the set, then go for it. I collect the eagles myself and I ordered one of these just to have. I think it's a nice set.
Thanks for the feedback. My thought is that by buying the $1 coin set, I'll get an eagle that hasn't been picked over. I'll have a chance at getting a real nice one. I wonder sometimes if coin retailers save the better eagles for themselves or send them to be slabbed.
I woud be surprised if the 08 had a lower mintage than the 07. When the 08 with rev hub of 07 was discovered orders for the 08's shot way up from people ordering them hoping to get one of the 07 reverses.
Thanks for your view, Conder101. Sounds logical that the issues might be close to the '07s. I'll bet the '06 coin and the reverse error coin are the two that will appreciate. I ordered early from the Mint and I was one of the lucky one; received two with the '07 reverse hubs. I'll probably hold off on any more burnished for now. Maybe expand my collection in one other direction. I don't know which way to go just now.
