Hey guys, I am going up to Manhattan on Saturday to drop off my wife and daughter to see Little Mermaid. I was hoping to visit a coin shop or two. Can anyone recommend some good coin shops in Manhattan? Thanks
take my advice u dont want to waste time in a coin shop if you go to Manhattan there is so much to do
Rent is so high in Manhattan that I wonder whether this added cost drives up the price. My rule of thumb is to not shop for coins in the same place that hamburgers cost $20.
I was in manhattan recently and followed my iphone map around the whole island trying to find all these coin shops that were listed....i found one lol. Just down from the rockerfeller so its not one that's hidden away Brigandi Coin Company on West 44th street between the Avenue of the Americas and 5th Avenue. Seemed a very clean modern place with a good selection of coins and sporting memorabilia. http://www.brigandicoin.com/
I think it's worth a trip to Stack's just given some of the interesting items they have on display there (not for sale). Thalia Elizabeth and I had a brief stop there last August, we were in there about ten or fifteen minutes. Yes, I bought her a little something and I didn't overpay. I haven't been to any other coin stores in Manhattan in the last ten years or so! Hmm, might have to check out Brigandi's and that spotter map too. Hint for visitors-- only tourists call "Sixth Avenue" by its official name "Avenue of the Americas"
It's like those who live in NYC who have never been to the Statue of Liberty. I didn't go until I was in my 20's... I still haven't been to the top of the Empire State Building... A "duh" from me BTW... I should have read the "Saturday" part. I don't think Stack's is open on Saturdays. There are some model train stores on 45th between 5th and 6th, though
I'm right here. Unfortunately, as far as i can tell, there isn't much in Manhattan other than Stacks and my view on Stacks is on the record. Really, if you want to see some nice coins, hit the Metropolitan Museum. They have quite a Byzantium collection on display. Ruben
