Tommorow Feb. 12 is ABe's birthday. I called a few Banks about whether they had the new Lincoln cents for release. I was told that they knew nothing about the new coins, and any new coins that are released to the general banks must be ordered by division headquarters (whatever that means). I am now getting antsy, how am I going to get any of these new coins in uncirculated condition ?
I have gotten a bunch of emails on this, I have no clue. Banks generally do not get the newest coins except the dollars, they get whats re-rolled by brinks and the like. I think the mint will be selling them tho, that might be your best bet. While I normally don't mess with memorials, I think I will grab a bunch of these if the opportunity presents itself as it might be a pretty popular thing to have stocked.
I have a feeling the TPG's are going to be flooded with these when they come out. From people aiming for all those MS 70's. I hope they are SUPER strict.
It wasn't long ago, Dallas in December I think, a 2008-D Lincoln in PCGS MS-68 ( biz strike) that sold for $3200 if memory serves correct. I can only imagine what a set of (4) 09 Lincolns in 68 would bring Registry fever !
Monday I was at the bank and I asked the teller if she had any Harrison Dollars or DC quarters, she said no but hadn't heard of the dollars. Today I was at the bank again getting a money order and I heard her and another teller talking about the new quarters and cents.
Well, find that bank tellers learn from us in telling them what is coming out. I always got my dollar coins from my bank, B of A, and I was always telling them what was next coming out. I don't see any reference of the penny coming to the mints order pages just the commem and bronze medal. Hope they come out with a 4 coin set. Goin to ask my bank if there is a way to order actual NEW 2009 lincolns and see what happens.
I have been looking all over the US Mint website for info on purchasing these pennies and have found absolutely nothing. Today I looked and found a blurb on the coins so at least they are finally talking about them. I'm such a conspiracy theorist but it's hard not to think that something is up with these pennies. Afterall they are only producing 50,000 of the sets for purchase by collectors. You would think that they would be advertising the issue some more. They are certainly pushing the Presidential dollars on the site. I feel like a guy going out to buy a nice used Cadillac only to have they lot salesman through an endless array of Yugos at me.
I think they're just going to put 'em out and let us find them when we find them. I kind of like that.
have you seen this? http://coins.about.com/b/2009/02/05/new-penny-circulation-will-be-delayed.htm?nl=1
I talked to my Credit Union last Monday and asked the head teller about the new cents. She informed me that they tried to order them, but were informed that they had to wait until this week to put the order in. So that I should check back next Friday 21 Feb 09 or just before closing on the 20th, as she is hopeing to have them in by then. On a side not, she also informed me that they had ordered the DC Quarters but they had received the wrong ones in the shipment. (they received old mixed rolls of quarters instead) Dave
I wish they had made a GOLD Lincoln Wheat Cent.....that would have been special. They could have made a 2-pc set with a 2009 PF & UNC..:kewl:
Will the old copper composition Lincolns avaiable in proof sets and mint sets. How about in induvidual coins?
The Mint apparently had an event in Hodgenville KY (Abe's birthplace) today, there was a press release on the Mint website about it. I thought about going but it's too long a drive for this old codger. I do hope the Mint sells some but I think they may just release them mixed in with other cents (are they for sure doing away with the Lincoln Memorial reverse?). A guy at the K-town show last weekend who sells a lot of Lincs told me that the Mint wasn't gonna offer any collector editions, but that may be bad/old information. Lots of rumor and "speculation" right now, little facts to be had. :goofer: Best Regards, George ================= VDB Coins
Are you kidding?! I have about 10 dollars worth of 2008-d cents in BU I got from the bank a few months back. I don't understand how they could be worth anything
