Can't seem to find this one on coppercoins.com. There are one or two close, but the markers aren't there. Of course, they have every single one of these accounted for. Needless to say, what thinkest all on this one? Thanks!
Nice... pm Jeankay, she is our resident expert on the Lincoln varietys with 4 discoverys to her credit last year:smile Huntsman53 is also a sharpie at that stuff.
Eddie, This is at the coppercoins.com site. From the picture it appears to be 1953-1MM-001. You can do a comparison to your coin. Be sure to check the marker photos for verification. jeankay
Jeankay, It is not an RPM-001, this confirmed due to the positioning of the Secondary Mint Mark in respect to the Primary Mint Mark and lack of the Die Markers. I just happened to have a circulated but EDS RPM-002 and a RPM-021 and it is not either of these as well. Therefore, it must be a RPM-020 or RPM-029 unless it is a new Variety (which is highly doubtful but who knows)! Frank
I would agree because the RPM-001 has the primary mintmark located directly under the 5 of the date. But Frank why would it not be a RPM-002?
The W-border of the Ds are off in 002 (they're not exactly parallel). Here's another closeup. And look at the N-border of the Ds. This one is more a NW-border shift, not just a W-border shift. There's as much border shift N in this one as there is W.
Andy, First, the Primary "D" on the OP's coin is rotated slightly Clockwise while the MM on RPM-002 is rotated slight Counter-Clockwise. Second, the Primary and Secondary "D's" on the OP's coin are perfectly parallel with each other in respect to the vertical bar while the Secondary "D's" vertical bar on the RPM-002 is rotated slightly Clockwise in relation to the vertical bar on the Primary "D". Third, there is much more separation between the Seconday and Primary Mint Marks on the RPM-002 than there is on the OP's coin. Fourth, on practically all specimens of the RPM-002 with the exception of EDS specimens, the middle two-thirds of the vertical bar on the Seconday Mint Mark are weak to almost non-existant and unless I mis-diagnosed the OP's coin, it is a late MDS or LDS specimen. Now to the pictue of 1953-D/D that you posted. Is the coin suppose to be an RPM-002? I ask this, because if you compare the pictured coin to the RPM-002, you can see that the pictured coin is not an RPM-002. I looked back through my RPMs and found that I actually have a RPM-020 besides the RPM-002 and RPM-021 that I already noted. Unless they are mis-attributed, the OP's coin is none of these. The only thing left to conclude is that it is an RPM-029 or new Variety! Frank
Eddie, I know all these answers are confusing. It is difficult to attribute a coin if you do not have it in hand. The best way to solve this mystery is to send the coin to an authority on rpm's. You can do this by contacting someone at coppercoins.com. or coneca, and ask if you can send the coin in for attribution. It is possible it is a new die... it happens. Good Luck, jeankay
No, the picture that I post is a RPM-001 and I should have stated that. And thanks for the information Frank and Eddie, that help clear things up.
