I was going deeper into my collection and found this in the back of my morgan dollar collection book and I never rated it according to my coin elite and red book if itis a ms 69 = $50 ,if ms 70 $4000 some of the scratches are in the patina not into coin but i found 2 nicks, 1 above eagle and 1 on shield centered near top of raised line how bad is that considered and how much would it effect the rating...thanks forany input
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you have an MS-69 or lower. Judging from what I'm seeing, and what the current market will bear, you have a $15-$16 coin. Melt is $13.17, plus a couple of bucks bonus for being an American eagle. Not even a third-tier TPG could give that coin a 70 and still be able to sleep at night.
thanks for the info it just looked so purdy and I needed to know, so at least I can give it name and a new home now in my books.
With these pics it's really hard to determine a fairly accurate grade. It looks below MS69 from here. The silver eagles get fairly decent money and with this toning would be a nice addition to anybodys dansco. Wouldn't surprise me to see this think get at least $30-35 on Ebay!
Mean no disrespect, but I would grade that no better than a 63. The coin has been badly mishandled by somebody.
thanks I was unaware that was classed as bullion value. or is that what it is considered for it's condition...
