Some basic information here: https://coinquest.com/cgi-bin/cq/coins.pl?coin=17997 A bit more in depth info: http://munichburgmemories.blogspot.com/2012/03/missouri-sales-tax-tokens.html
Just another summary reference; the catalog referenced sells for over $400 when you can find it. http://www.taxtoken.org/catalog.htm
I have a few of those that I pulled out of my LCS' token bin for 25c a piece. I like the metal ones and have several different states. They are interesting.
I have several brass bus tokens, WW2 cardboard, and many metal states tokens. Not worth much but very interesting and they are keepers. Thanks for the post. Be safe
The states that used them did so mostly in the 1930s. I believe Missouri was the last state still using them into the 1960s. Some of them, notably New Mexico and Arizona actually issued some 5 mill tokens in bronze and they are somewhat attractive.
I'm not with them now but I don't believe that they have a year, I know this collection has been in a container since the '60s so they are older than that.
Here are a few I already had pictures of: Disclaimer - these were taken when I had no clue how to take pictures of coins!
I grew up in Missouri and I use to play with these when I was a youngster. Thanks, you just brought back long ago memories.
I have a Missouri 5 mill tax token that I found in a coin star machine. It was one of the first pieces in my collection and it really got me interested in coins as a hobby; things to be examined and researched rather than thrown in a cup holder and spent at a convenience store. Lol.
