I just won this on an opening bid at David Lawrence. I think I may have overpaid but I love me some pre-civil War branch mint Gold and Odd Denominations. Anyways seller pictures I will post the result when I get the coin in hand (and yes you could check DL website but that spoils the fun)

    Obverse rim wear...I'm at AG3.
    Cool well-traveled piece.

I would call the obv ag3 but the rev g4+ and would call it overall g4 as it appears to be NGC graded... now if it was a pcgs holder i would say ag3...

H'mm, I'll go AG-03 with the proviso that the TPGs actually called it G-04. OK, I'll get off the fence and go with AG-03. But I love that it's so worn. I don't recall ever seeing a US gold coin with such a degree of honest wear. Sure, lots of being battered around, smacked, scarred, gouged and holed, but not plain old wear. Especially the $3 gold coin which was never really a workhorse of the economy. I wonder what this weighs compared to spec?

Lower end 3 dollar gold seem to have lots of issues. That what got my eye on this. Lower grade gold coins always look cool to me :)

I'm going to say AG-3 for this one. I don't see how a TPG could go any higher with no visible rim on the obverse. I think the reverse is G-4...but I don't think that gives it the bump. I'm going to stick with AG-3.

Not as bad as this one. Anyone care to guess how much this sold for. gold1.jpg gold2.jpg

I going to guess a couple of thousand because of low ball collectors

After looking at completed auctions on HA it could go as low as FR02.

First impression was AG 03 so I will stick with that.

Guess it depends on whether two lowball registry competitors happened upon the same auction...

I was going to wait to get in hand but given the holiday season it may be quite some time given it has not shipped yet.

So still David Lawrence picture. And I think at AG 3 CAC I think everyone did great with saying either AG 3 or very close to G 4. Quite happy to have a problem free $3 391256dd-b976-4150-bff9-87336b772696.jpg 391256dd-b976-4150-bff9-87336b772696.jpg 03912e38-7676-429f-b3c7-6b48224b87ce (1).jpg
