near date "P" susan b anthony coin ?

I have seen several notations as my susan 1979 P near date and a susan 1979 P what does it mean , the P is right by the date or just closer to the date? ..... lost:computer:

"Near date" means the date is near the rim. On the "near date" variety the rim is wider putting the date closer to the rim.
