Did this happen in the slab?

    ........i would be interested to know if there is a photo of the coin in the pcgs files taken at the time of slabbing to see if it matched! i believe ngc and dominion grading service's site offers the pictures but NOT pcgs? anyone know?

    Is the coin really pitted? Everything to me looks like it could be on the surface.

    1. Might be that Anne Oakly look gaining popularity. Remember that she actually did most of her shooting with a shot gun.
    2. Might have been a real coin in there and opened by one of many experts that know how to do that and replace the coin with that one.
    3. Could well be one of the many China fakes now gaining entrace here.
    4. Possibly PCGS is starting a new grade for pitted, worn, discolored coins. AU = Awfully Used.
    5. Sure would be fun to hear what is said at PCGS if and when something like that is sent back for regrading.

    Most of the black spots couldbe on the surface, but the area in the field above and in front of the bridge of the nose are pits. They really show up in the enlarged image. (It also looks like some one worked on that area too trying to remove the spots and thy found the pits.)
