I was pondering over a lot of coins I have from collecting , metal detecting , given to me, I found this one it always bothered me the way it looked , upon closer exam it looks like a really bad attempt at counterfitting a coin ,( I mean really bad ) I never noticed because I really never used to use a microscope and close up digitals until lately. From now on all my coins get a labotomy. hope this is usefull to anyone.

It's a cast counterfeit. The raised bumps are typical for cast counterfeits.

Typical rough cast , look close enough you should find a hole on the edge of the coin where the metal was forced in to the cast , also how does the reeding look ?
    Thanks for sharing .

reeding is half smooth and there is pockets filled with white compound ( maybe polish) this might be from a wanna be spin cast jeweler.

P.S. I forgot to mention it was supposed to be a 1858 O half dollar

Good pics, but it would have been much more obvious, to me at least, if you had posted images of the whole coin first. To me, the "splotching" you noted could have simply been a result of silver leeching out of the coin. The bubbles in the later pics did clear it up though.
