    At first I thought it might be early India, Iran, or Turkey. I am stuck now ugh... not knowing is driving crazy. Wait for more opinions...

    Afghganistan was proposed by the dealer and the year 1878 ? I'm not positive though .

    I looked threw my 17th, 18th, and 19th century Krause catalogs and did not see your coin there. sorry. maybe @lordmarcovan or @panzerman or @Siberian Man might know what this is ???

    I know what you mean. I get a vague "Central Asian" vibe there, is all. My guess was some Indian state.

    That sounds plausible to me, and was my second (wild-) guess.

    No, I'm as clueless as you are on this one. Arabic and Far Eastern coins are my blind spots.

    No, I can rather confidently state that I do not think this is ancient. It is merely old. It looks 18th or 19th century (AD) to me, based upon the style of it, and while I cannot confirm the dealer's "1878 Afghanistan" attribution, I will say that that sounds plausible enough to me, until proven otherwise. Someone else here will likely know.

    You're going to need someone who can read those Arabic inscriptions.

    Yes, Islamic Dynasties, Barakzai, 'Abd al-Rahman, 1880-1901, AR Qiran, struck at Dar al-Sultanat Herat, dated AH 1297 (1880). Album 3181.
