This one arrived today and came in NGC plastic. Any guesses to the grade?

I think you should send that coin to me for further observation. Don't worry, I won't claim that it was lost in the mail and then compensate you with the price you paid + 20%.;) OK, I might do that but it will depend upon the grade on the slab which I will say is MS65. Too many large distractions to go higher despite a nice strike and great eye appeal.

Seriously, that coin really does belong in my collection. Tough to find a modern coin with that much toning. BRAVO!

thanks! ahhh, it's nice to know that I have a coin that makes you drool, since you've been making me salivate for months with all your incredible coins.;) I'll tell you, this toning thing is really growing on me.

Anyways, regarding your "observation", I'm afraid you might be disappointed. The coin has been broken free from its NGC chains already and placed into my type album to hang with his toner friends.

You are close on the grade. I'll leave it at that.

My guess is that NGC called it a 66. I doubt I would, but...

    65. Big nick on the reverse makes it hard to go any higher.

I was thinking the same thing about the 3 significant marks on the obverse. My guess is that if I was close, it is MS64 not MS66.

I own only two rainbow toned modern Jeffs and they are both raw.

I really don't collect modern coins but the album has a slot so I do keep my eye out for modern toned Jeffs.

Very nice! You say that its tough to find modern toned jeffs. At what point/year do you consider a jeff modern?

IMO, that's the most beautiful toning on any jefferson.

    Thanks for sharing

I consider any coin minted 1965-present a modern coin including Jefferson Nickels.

Out of respect to the OP and his wonderful toned coin, I will not try and change your mind about that opinion.
