I don't collect foreign coins but I couldn't resist this one. It's a 1971 Bahamas Swordfish Half Dollar that's 1/2 ounce of silver. A stunning obverse and the Queen herself on the reverse.

A stunning obverse with Queen Elizabeth in her younger days on the reverse, which also has a few toning spots. A 1971 Bahamas Half Dollar wit a Swordfish and 1/2 oz of silver.
I have several Bahamas coins, minted by the Franklin Mint in the '70's and 80's, and they are spectacular. Why coin collectors in the USA shun these Franklin mint issues puzzles me. Most dealers and collectors will not even pay melt.
Certainly a brilliant coin, but almost all of the former Commonwealth coins are very nice, especially the Canadian coins.
I wonder if the Franklin Mint gave themselves a bad name with collectors with all of their old magazine ads. They were in the business of manufacturing collectibles in a way that felt like they were trying to take advantage of the old, the naive, or the unwary. I didn't realize until much later that they actually can make beautiful coins too.
Nice coin, the Franklin Mint does a nice job with there coinage. This coin contains 0.2667 oz Ag. https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/bahamas-50-cents-km-21-1971-1973-cuid-1041359-duid-1308756
...the obverse is QE II...but that is one righteous Blue Marlin on the reverse, great coin...KM #21...Spark
@Collecting Nut ...I’m not trying to split hairs, but I liked the coin a lot and looked it up...Spark
No problem. My knee aches so much I sometimes wonder what I say or do. My surgery date can't get here fast enough.
Good luck on that surgery! A beautiful coin, vibrant but simple that is rather stirring!! I do truly love Franklin Mint coins of the 70s and 80s, particular rare uncirculated specimens although confess to a complete collection of ALL their Caribbean 1960s through 80s proof coins..
I would agree except they make too many different designs and the common obverse is boring. Not saying the obverse on our (US) coins are any better.
