Agree...if you look at the last sampling posts, between the time and expense, you could have easily went to a show or coin shop and found those Wheatie dates in BU condition. Sure you may have paid anywhere from 25 cents to a $1.00 each for those AU/BU Wheaties, but add up your time and expense. Every show has dealers with bargain-bin boxes (i.e., 50% off). It is wise to look through them instead of $50 of Lincoln cents from your local bank...unless these cents were from an "unsearched estate of a retired grocer's attic."
boxes of coins are fun to go through regardless though.. especially if you're new to it all. and have nothing else to do..
I wish I knew where all these "coin shows" are that everybody talks about. I live in a rural area so no chance of any shows around here. David
I'd suggest you subscribe to Coin World or Numismatic News. Both publications list locations for just about all coin shows across the nation on weekly basis.
I get a few Canadian cents in rolls, too, which doesn't surprise me since I now live in Michigan. I lived in Phoenix for almost seven years and never saw a Mexican coin in change. Maybe the coins are more dissimilar to U.S. coins than Canadian coins are, so they get picked out or rejected quicker. I reject Canadian coins given to me in change if I catch them in time; some of the vending machines won't accept them and I don't collect them.
