Anyone like AT coins.

I sorta like AT coins for albums. I am working on a BU set of Jefferson Nickels in an album and think they look nice. Does anyone else inlcude AT coins in their albums?

now AT coins we like. i never did get around to buying an AT morgan though

 

With a little MS-70, I could make a blue set of Lincolns for book 2, 1940+

In fact, I think I will, lol.

I'll post it here. It does not work on BU Red coins, only on the redbrowns and high end circs, nice XF/AU set of Lincolns on the way

Why do you think these are AT? CuNi coins often tone this sky blue color (and also "pee" yellow) perfectly naturally....Mike

p.s. to answer your question, yes, I do have a few AT/QT coins in albums.

 

The photos might not make them look AT, but in hand, there is very little doubt. Go on E-Bay and search Jefferson Nickel "rainbow". Then look at AAA Chicky's Nickel Hut.

 

Philosophical question here -

I know this isn't a discussion of AT vs NT (yet) but if you like the look of toned coins, what difference does it make if they're AT or NT? As long as the result is esthetically pleasing to you, the journey it took to get there shouldn't matter.

interesting AT.

I actually have 2 nickels from proof sets (1961 and 1964) that have both toned violet. Its a nice change from the typical bronze color that they often tone.

edit: they toned violet while in the set.

 

I like blue.

 

it doesnt matter much to me. It all depends on that particular coin.

 

i agree i like blue before i used to like red but this has convinced me :thumb:

 

That's what I was talking about with my "sky blue" comment above. You very frequently see NT coins with this coloration - and it is interesting to note the hue difference between the above coin and the coins Lehigh posted.

I do believe I have seen that color before. NGC MS64. A bag toned Morgan that had the untoned area take this coloration. Cool!

To be honest, I was talking about that color blue on nickel -- you see it all the time. By contrast, you rarely see that color on silver coins -- that bag toned Morgan (and my ignorance of toned Morgans) notwithstanding. Do you see it often on Morgans?

 

I actually believe the Buff. I posted is AT. I would love to be wrong but the color is a bit strange IMO.

That color is in the beginning of the toning spectrum and looks original to me. What does the reverse look like? I guess the coin could have been gassed to achieve that color but AT coins in my experience usually show deeper color than that.

I have seen that color on Jefferson Nickels, Washington Quarters, Mercury Dimes, and Morgan Dollars. That color in particular has never made be think AT right off the bat.

 

One thing that bothers me is that the blue color covers all of the obverse and just seems too even. It just seems strange on a Buff.
