I have a couple of coins that I've had for a while and I would like to get your opinions on their authenticity/grade/value. Thanks, CJD obverse reverse
Have you checked the mint mark against the info provided in this source that GDJMSP posted? The 1914D is a semi-key wheatie, and the footnote in the Red Book reads "Beware of altered date or mint mark." That aside, I make it a VG-8, which puts the value somewhere north of $100 IF the mint mark can be verified.
I give it a net grade of GOOD...at best. It has been harshly cleaned which probably caused the pitting you see in the coin. As for counterfeit 1914-D, here is link about the subject: Counterfeit LINK
I would give it the grade of VG8 with a Net grade of G4...I can't say for sure it has been cleaned...is there a way to get a clearer photo of the OVD? As for the mintmark---something makes me wonder...I can't say for sure what it is but I think its the D---it might be a 1914 with a added D...but I never have heard of one of those...only 1944D's made into 1914-D's.... As for the value...under $100. Speedy
find me ANY 14D for less than $100 you tool Edited. We do not insult or make snide remarks about each other on this forum!
We sir...my dealer has sold about 3 for $90 each...some right at $100 and more over that. You can find one if you look long enough. Speedy
Hate to say it, but I would be very suspect of this coin. It is incredibly difficult to tell from a photo, but the mintmark does not look right to me. As for grade, I would give it a net grade of G4.
