    Hi:

My name is Adam Stuart. I am a physician in Miami, Florida with no previous experience in coin collecting. My Mom gave me a small project: she has ~ 50 coins, domestic and foreign, with dates ranging from mid-1800's to early 1900's. Most are individually enclosed in a small plastic zip-lock bag.
She asked my opinion on how find their worth, and I quickly sought a Forum with no vested interest in the coins but rather an interest in sharing the group's collective knowledge (i.e., I do not want to walk into a store and ask one's opinion).

Is it permissable to post all coin images to my private Website and direct interested Forum members to the images with a hyperlink? Second, are scanning coins with a high-end scanner permissable, or macro-zoom images are preferred?

    Thank you in advance.

After ten posts, You can post one post per week in the "auction Listings section" This is where you can post your link. Usually pictures are better than scanners. Plus with a scanner you are placing it on glass, you could sctratch it or drop it.

Personally I wouldn't use ziplock bags for storage, go for non PVC 2 X 2 flips.

    Hi Harry:

Thank you for your reply. Sorry that I did not make myself clear. I am not interested in selling my mother's coins. I was asked to find their value, and I want to provide clear front/back images of each coin of interest. I want to post in this, "What's it Worth" section of the Forum, and for ease wanted to know if I can upload all images to my Website and provide a hyperlink for those interested members to peruse the images at their leisure. I read about the 10-image attachment rule here, and wanted to know if my alternative posting idea is allowed.

    Thank you.

Yes you can do the hyperlink, I think. You might get more hits if you post the coins individually in posts. Pictures are usually better than Scans. And you did post your make your post clear I just didn't read.

You might think of purchasing the Redbook it will give you an idea of the coins value. Not sure what you have but if there are some rare coins in great condition you may want to consider having them certified, but thats jumping the gun. Whatever you do, don't clean the coins and store them in airtights or 2x2 flips using a desicant as moisture is the enemy.

Looking forward to seeing your coins.

Adam, I already have a website and in addition to hyperlinks you can also reference the images inline with your posting here on CT.

The second button from the right in the reply window, that looks like a scene of a mountain, is the "Image" button. A popup window appears and you can enter the URL of the image, including on your website. That's how I get images over to CT.

There is a restriction in terms of the size of the image if I recall correctly (I'm on too many boards and each one is a little different!) but if you run into that you can post a smaller image inline and provide a hyperlink to the larger image.

I have a separate section of my website directory for images that I post only to here. There are some images on my website that are more general and I can link to those also with no worries.

There is a limitation of ten pictures per post, so you may need to do 5 posts with ten pics in each or edit your pics to show more then one coin. Be sure to show both the obverse and reverse of each coin in order to get a decent estimate of value from our resident experts. You should also ask for a grading for the coins as well.
Professional Coin Grading Service www.pcgs.com is a very well known and respected coin grading company that has coin prices on their website available to all users, without a fee or registration.
