I've shown these before (quite a few years ago) but I like this matched set so I thought I'd show them again. Valentinian I and Theodosius I campgates with the christogram over the gate (Thessalonica mint):

To be honest, those structures on top of the campgates, especially the ones with legs, look to me like the water tanks on top of NYC apartment buildings! But I think the beacon theory makes a lot of sense. I have only two: Constantine II Caesar (son of Constantine I), Æ reduced Follis. small bust type, Heraclea Mint (5th Officina), 317 AD. Obv. Small laureate half-bust of young Constantine II left, wearing imperial mantle, holding mappa in right hand and globe and scepter in left hand, D N FL CL CONSTANTINVS NOB C / Rev. Campgate with five rows, three turrets, no door, and no star, PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS; in exergue, mintmark MHTЄ [Epsilon = 5th Officina]. RIC VII 20 (p. 545), Sear RCV V 17140, Cohen 107. 18 mm., 3.31 g. (Purchased from Kirk Davis). Constantius II Caesar (son of Constantine I), silvered billon centenionalis, Trier Mint (2nd Officina) 326 AD. Obv. laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left, FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C / Rev. Campgate with six rows, no door, and two turrets; star between turrets; PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS. In exergue: STR followed by pellet in crescent. Great coins, even if 4th century is not on my list, many here are in spectacular conditon. @DonnaML , I learned something new today, I have never seen such a small bust on a 4th century.

I picked this one up a couple of years back from the 'infamous' Z on vcoins!... It was cheap and I knew the patina was fake...Look at the bubbles, it's almost like this guy sprays it on!....I plonked it in Distilled water, and I'm not joking, in less than 10 seconds the supposed desert patina was gone....The water was completely 'yellow'!......Here's the before and after...It did make me laugh!
