Your plan of action is why I don't even look at albums anymore (unless maybe in a true estate sale). I figure some of the albums have been floating around the open market for years with the coins slowly being exchanged for lesser coins.
I think the whole set looks very nice. Have you considered keeping it or don't you have any particular interest in Lincoln cents? Bruce
When I worked pawn we took on a near complete wheat cent book. Since 09vdb 14d nod22 were missing, he let me have the rest for about $20. There were 4 1914d, at least 2 of 4 were counterfeit fillers which kept his eye busy. While I learned more about the series and came to appreciate the XF 09s & XF/AU 31s. It was such a relief to upgrade my collection with a decent quality book.
Yeah, this is where I love to live. I am a group lot junkie. My rule is I have to value less than half the coins in the group equal to or higher than what I pay for the group. I love all coins, so not very particular about coins in other series I am not actively collecting. With modern US it gets harder since most coins do not have variations really, but with ancients its easy. I just bought a group of 40 drachms on one Sasanian ruler, but since he struck from 18 mints over 15 years, there were no duplicates. Even with US coins, though, there are tons of coins I do not own since I never pursued a date set of, like large cents, quarters, etc. If there are true duplicates......trade bait.
Bought a partial Buffalo nickel album because there was an incredible 1937-D in it; and bought a Standing Liberty quarter group for the XF nice 1917 Type 1;
That's a nice looking set that someone put together. I can see why you wanted that one coin but hey, take it out and replace it with another one. They're easy enough to find.
I went ahead and bought a dansco with horrible photos. Seller said nothing was toned. Even with bad photos I can see color. Album was cheap too.
Put a photo here, it can be verified in 10 seconds. The 41-D just looks like toning and many people find that desirable, I don't think it needs to be replaced.
I saw a indian head cent dansco sold on eBay in may for $65 was 3/4ths complete, what I can't get out of my head is the AU/XF flying eagle cent. The frickin dansco (nowadays) or flying eagle by ITSELF should be $65.
