If I still owned it, I would send it to NGC to have the reverse mounted in front, and get the star grade. It would probably grade 65* PL today.
I hear you on that one. I'd want a ★ as well. My problem and it's MY problem, is that I like the older holders, especially rattlers. But since it's already had a trip to NJ and received a green sticker, I might go for it. Had it come back with a gold, it would probably be a no go for me. A reverse mounted ★ at 65PL would be very tempting.
I am in at 5.1. The colors are amazing and more expected that way on proofs, there is just something off on the way they flow.
5.5 on the Lincoln. Those are crazy colors but toning on proofs just isn't as impressive as it is on mint state coins.
I stopped getting notifications on this one again. Now to catch up. 6.5 on the Oregon Trail. At 68 this one is every bit of monster category. Color, grade, and price I am sure. It’s practically at the ceiling as far as I’m concerned. 6.4 on the 1880-S. I’m sure with the PL those colors really pop on the surfaces. I also like the rattler but would prefer the coin reverse mounted with a star and PL to boot. It is nice to know the color on this one has been stable for several decades. I also bet it would CAC as a 65 if sent back in as a 65*PL. 4.8 on the 62 proof cent. Nice colors but to me they are very splotchy and has that oil slick look. 6.0 on the 1885-O. Love the greens but this one does seem a bit dull and I don’t like the reed hit near the eye. I also think this one has changed hands quite a bit and wonder if it has been to CAC and failed.
On the 1885o—Never sent to CAC as far as I know. It has sold 3 times that i am aware thereof. I rate it as a 6. Low-level monster, because of weak strike and average luster, but really great toning.
