Was this through metal detecting? Cool finds anyway. I think i'm going to train my dog to find coins. Here Jolie, find some gold.

Nice finds Jim. For those interested in metal detecting check out the forums at treasurenet.com - http://www.treasurenet.com/f/. You'll find a lot of folks posting their finds, talking about where and how to detect, etc.

Just got myself a detector and pulled a few post 1964 coins out of the ground. They were extremely dirty.....how did you clean up the coins you posted without actually "cleaning" them?

Silver, all ya have to do is rinse the dirt off of em. They come outta the ground in pretty much the same condition as the day they were dropped. Unless they were in a real wet area.
The Indian head pennies I just plop in hydrogen peroxide and that dissolves all the dirt off of em. Our Michigan soil keeps the coppers found here in pretty nice condition. That is the main reason my Indian heads look so good. I have seen others in different states that don't look so great. Jim

Massachusetts is pretty brutal on coins. The ground is often on the acidic side. I've had a couple hits that ended up being a nice pile of green dirt with a tiny indistinguishable copper disc in the middle.

P.S. thanks for sharing your coin finds.....keep 'em coming ;)
