What is anyone's opinion as to what those white spots are on the obverse of this coin. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1122&Lot_No=7450
I think those are on the holder, some kind of tape residue maybe. Now the spotting under liberty is definitely on the coin but IMO doesn't really detract.
That was kind of what I thought I was seeing, but I find it rather odd that they did not clean or reholder it.
Based on the pic I don't think it's on the holder at all. The white spots appear to be lint and I'd bet that coin has been wiped. I'm amazed that they slabbed it.
I'll go with tape or residue on the holder, the spots appear to float above the coin, not on it, unless my depth perception is off. Don't forget, I am heavily medicated this week
Consider this guys, if that stuff is on the holder - then why did the coin only get a 63 ? Go look at the coin and find me the marks that warrant a 63.
Now that the auction is closed, check the pics now that they aren't the flash version. I'll grant that the white specs may be tape residue, but those horizontal lines on both sides - no way. And there no way near enough marks on that coin to warrant a 63 otherwise.
BTW, Doug, all you have to do is turn off the flash and you will get the same pics while the auction is running. Since I won the auction, I will let you know when I receive the coin. However, now that you have the pics here, look at the area as the white line goes off the bottom of the coin. I am nearly positive that that white stuff goes beyond the coin.
Yes, of course. But I still think the coin has been wiped. I just don't buy all of those marks being on the slab and I think the 63 grade reinforces that. We shall see what we shall we. I don't mind being wrong - doesn't bother me a bit.
Looks like the holder to me. I zoomed up close and I think the coin looks great. Better than my 63 RB 16 S
TPG dont have standards that they follow but u figured that out a long time ago. nah the whole market there is only one GD so it doesnt make a diff but yes he is right this once
