Does anyone know of a source for Late Eastern Roman Empire small coins offered in uncleaned lots? I have tried for years, but unfortunately only found quality lots from Iberia, Balkans, and the main Roman sites. Thanks, Matt

Well over 100 views but unfortunately no advice... I supposed uncleaned coins sources are getting far less common nowadays.

I used to purchase lots in bulk from Crustyromans.com. Unfortunately they are no longer in the trade. Used to buy lots of 250 or so, oftentimes eastern rulers such as Arcadius and Theodosius II were quite numerous. I think you are right about less bulk lots being available. You might try Ebay, but caveat emptor on that site.

I have heard from dealers that both VCoins and ebay are associating 'uncleaned with' looting of ancient sites and therefore banning sales. Unfortunate, since most are found with metal detectors in farmers fields. Some over in central Europe are finding it more beneficial to clean/sell their finds themselves since the 90s. Thanks for the reply! Cheers, Matt
