Hi, I'm new to this...as of an hour ago! LOL Anyways, my son made my wife aware that a $5 bill she received in change looked a bit odd. It's a 1934 series B $5 note...Cleveland reserve. Also noted the Secretary of Treasury was Fred M. Vinson, so I'm assuming (from his tenure in office) that the print was either in 1945-46. THe bill is wholly intact...from images I've seen online (and descriptions)...it looks like the grade might fall between VGC and Fine. I'm assuming there's some value to it (LOL...at least 5 bucks!) and have no clue where to seek anymore info. Any guestimates out there? Is this a common bill? It's not a silver cert...no red ink...doesn't seem to have printing errors. Cool to see the "redeemable in lawful money" printed on it! Anyone can email me direct...and thanks in advance for any and everyone's help! Brad
First, welcome to the forum second, i cant help with value at the moment, but i am sure someone will stop by who can. Pictures would be most benificial, especially with any printing errors that might be present.
Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, I'll scan when I get an opportunity. I've looked & looked and don't see any typical errors in printing. But, thought someone here might be keen as to "what" to look for. I certainly am finding an interest in the bill just for a bit of historical hunting alone....it's been fun researching years & people to date the bill. And, finding this site was wonderful. I've seen a lot of really good posts and some really cool paper money pieces. THis one find may have just sparked an interest in collecting for me! :smile Thanks again! Brad
Brad, you hit, what i think is THE main reason we all love paper money collecting... the research and the learning is alot of fun and of course, the beautiful works of art too
Hello Brad...welcome to CT and the excitement of Paper Money Collecting! The note you found is rather special in another way! It is what's called a "Mule" (Series 1934B face but with a series 1934 back or reverse) cool huh?? On the reverse you will see a tiny number called the back plate number, look for it if it is a true Mule then it will be #637. That Cleveland note in VG to Fine and can have a value of up to $150 Great find!! RickieB
