Found this today

Found a 72 Kennedy half with wired finish . Please help.

Wired finish ?

 

I believe that would be a typo on the part of the OP.

 

I think he ment to say weird finish but it seems to be just toining if thats what he is referring to the odd color.

 

Oh! Okay! He means "weird" finish.

@Brian Ochaba - It's best if you lay the coin on a flat surface and take the photo from directly overhead, holding the camera in both hands. Also, you should crop out all of the unnecessary background and then resize the image accordingly. (That is, if you have image processing software.)

 

The toning is too dark for me but it has a certain appeal.

 

He could mean proof . I just read that some where in the red book today. They used the term wired rim or proof. I'm trying to find where I read that and will give citation as to what page I read that on

 

Ah, here it is. 72 nd edition 2019 R. S. Yeoman. pp. 370 Proof Coins and Sets. A proof coin can usually be distinguished by its sharp detail, high wire edge, and brilliant mirror like surface.

 

Ive seen this toning. It might be similar. Down here in lousiana after Katrina when the homes flooded peoples coin collections would to. This led to that this type of toning when they would sit in the "swamp Juice" for those weeks they were digging peoples houses out. Ive seen it well on bicentenials and ikes people usualy keep.

 

Proof would not be a finish, or condition but a manufacturing process. Hope he tells us what he meant.

 

The only problem is that this isn't a proof coin.

Spellcheck only corrects spelling. It can't tell you if you've used the correct word - there, their, they're - to, too, two - The only thing that works most of the time is proofreading.

 

Sure. I was thinking he may have thought it was a proof. And probably because as stated I had just read that passage in Red Book myself. The only thing that came to my mind with the term wired. I never thought about it being spelled wrong. He probably was referring to the finish but who knows yet. Perhaps op will let us know. Thanks for the inquiry. Whoops !
