After my very successful photo of my monster toned 1941-D NGC MS67 5FS Jefferson Nickel, I decided to see if it was a fluke or if I was on to something. As a result, I have started to re-image my entire Jefferson Nickel Registry set. I would like the members of this forum to decide which set of photos they prefer overall (New or Old). The top photo for each coin is the new photo and the bottom photo is the old one. Please vote in the poll above.

My goal with the new photos was to capture more detail and luster while still maintaining color and reducing glare/hot spots.

Can't reply via the poll because my opinion changes. There are a couple where I prefer the new pics but on most I prefer the old. Your new pics seem to wipe out the detail of the coins because they are too dark.

First off, they are both GREAT pics. After that, I think I agree with Doug for the most part. However, I also have a question. Which one shows the color best? I some cases, the differences are dramatic. Is that 43-D bright green? Is the 42-D reverse pink or blue?

regarding the 1st and 2nd I'd say the newer pictures are better.

the other's Im not too sure about.

regardless, this is a great example of how photos can alter what the coin looks like. :)
some of the coins look more colorful in one picture versus the other.

For the most part I can see the color better on the new pics, (at least I think I can, hard to say without seeing them in person) but I see the details better on the old. If you could show the details of the old pics, and keep the color of the new pics you would have something. I voted new pics because showing more color really improved the look of the coins IMO.

Both photos are real good. Some are darker than others, and it looks like it could be 2 different coins.

You're the one who has to choose which one depicts the coin as it looks in hand. That's what matters most.

    Too many choices!

The first coin I preferred the new photos.

The second through the fourth coins I preferred the old ones -- the new ones are too dark/underexposed to my eye.

The fifth coin I preferred the new photos.

Rather than go into each of the rest of them, let me leave you with this thought... For the heavily toned coins, I prefer your new method, but for the older coins, I prefer the old method because the new photos (although technically better) are a bit dark and I believe don't capture how the coin really looks in hand and mutes the luster too much.

    Respectfully submitted hoping to help...Mike
