My 2018 paper "A Doubted Variety of M. Aemilius Scaurus and P. Plautius Hypsaeus Vindicated", co-authored with Richard Schaefer, is now available on Academia.edu here. This short paper came about after I bought what I thought was a unique coin from a Vcoins dealer but which eventually helped solve a mystery over a century in the making about whether or not a given variety existed in solid silver or was simply the product of a mixup in a forger's workshop. You can read what we concluded and why in the paper. If you've got an idea for a paper, I recommend reaching out to @Nicholas Molinari and seeing if it sounds like a fit for KOINON. The journal has a really great team of editors and reviewers and even as a first time author I felt the process was straightforward and easy to understand. Finally, I'll give you a sneak preview on my next work, co-authored with Andrew McCabe and published in Revue Belge de Numismatique 2020. This is all I can share at the moment but I'll share the full paper as soon as my agreement with RBN allows: To keep this thread legal, here's a pic of the coin that was the subject of the first paper:
That's truly brilliant, @red_spork. ...This one has no provenance in print, was co-written by Exactly Nobody, and shows it in oh, so many ways. Some day I need to reedit it, if only to include a link (cited in the paper) that actually works. https://www.academia.edu/37251493/The_enigmatic_Palais_deniers_of_the_Fécamp_Hoard_A_review_of_the_research_and_a_proposed_attribution Here's the example of mine (bought on Delcampe, unattributed as the driven snow) that set it off.
That’s pretty cool. Always wanted to get a paper in Academia. I have a pretty neat treatise on an unpublished Chinese ruin, but nobody cares enough lol
No, Really, don't be scared by the name, or even the reputation. Academia.edu lets you read anything, and upload, free. The premium membership (maybe $30 a month, having paid for exactly one) only gives you some more bells and whistles. ...And Have No Fear about uploading stuff that you know is good! They're very democratic about that. ...In fact, some of it Isn't (that good). This isn't technically an academic website; just one where academics like to to hang out. ...And Someone, Somewhere in the world, is likely to care.
This short easy read gives a lot of dimension to this interesting issue. Thanks for sharing with all of us.
Oh okay, that sounds pretty good! In case anybody cares about an obscure unstudied ruin in north east China... I’m your guy
Congratulations, Jordan! Just read the article and will share my run-of-the-mill 422/1b for your thread.
Thanks for the kind words everyone! This is far from run-of-the-mill, one of if not the best of the more common variety I've ever seen. A well struck example of the common variety is about as rare as any of the scarcer varieties.
This link might work, for the example from Inumis. ...lllLet's find out, shall we? https://www.inumis.com/shop/charles...s-d-xe-s-le-palais-compiegne-1201533/?lang=en
