And if the earth's curvature didn't get in the way, there would be a direct line of sight to..... Exeter. 1644 Civil War shilling struck at Sir Richard Vyvyan's mint in the city. The coins made here in 1644 were predominantly for paying the Royalist troops besieging Plymouth and Lyme Regis. Coining virtually ceased for the second half of the year following the defeat of the Earl of Essex at Lostwithiel in Aug/Sept 1644, when only those laying siege to Plymouth remained in the area.

If my research findings are accurate, the 13. district or administrative region of Paris put these out to warm the French folks up for the fading of the franc and the coming of the euro.
