I bought a 1942-P from you this week. For some reason, it has been held up in Pennsylvania for 2-3 days. I've not gotten into selling coins, but I have a friend that has done well. Thanks for everything.
Oh and I figured I'd also share this one I cherrypicked for $15 a few years ago. The guy next to me poked fun at me for buying the one note with "writing all over it" 1935A Hawaii Emergency issue, "Short snorter"
I am going to start with 1943 because the steel cents and war nickels really epitomize the effect the war had on coinage. And, in honor of a WWII veteran who never spoke of his service, as was so common, I post this small memorial. I found out later that my father drove the top generals to the concentration camps upon their liberation, so I can understand that some horrors are not meant to be shared with anyone else. Such is the bravery of the greatest generation.
I did a war nickel set all PCGS MS65 most were FS, it's gone now but for some reason I sill have a image of this, I coudn't fine one in 66
Reading you post to honor your father, was touching....as my father in law was also a part of that force who fought in the battle of the bulge...and onto the death camps. He seldom spoke of the horrors.....he need not....as that could be seen in his eyes, and face when ever the subject was brought up. These men and women were without a doupt were the greatest generation ever! I am honored to have known many of them ,and sadden as most are gone ,and others leave us daily. God bless their souls....and grant them etenal peace....something their lives didnt give them...the gift of peace.
@Jim Dale They are just I think bronze medals that someone gave to about 15 years ago. I didn't see any markings on the edge. That's about it. Maybe someone else can shine a light on these, any help would be apricated
Here are some of mine; 1942 Australia Penny, 1936 German Olympic Medal, 1943 Australia Florin, 1944 Filipinas 50 Cents, 1939 Nederlanden 2.5 Gulden. 1944 UK 1 Penny, 1942 Vichy France 1 Franc, 1944 Australia 1/2 Crown and 1940 Swiss 2 Francs. I used GMT Games A World At War box for a background, extra flavor.
