Went to borders today... to get a good reference for US coins... What is the difference between Red Book, Blue Book, and Black book... Besides Red book looks pretty on the inside. :rolling: Red book and blue book by same publisher even. I did pick up the hard bound copy of the red book.
Welcome to the insanity that many of us are infected with. The Red Book is a very good starting point if you intend to collect US coins. You get history. You get introduced to varieties. You get an idea of value. You get the concept of grading. My suggestion would be to read it, probably twice, and then decide what you (and your budget) would like to start collecting. Consider also getting a subscription to Coin World. It's a weekly with a monthly supplement called Coin Values. There are other publications and if you could make it to a large coin show you could probably pick up some freebies to see what they're like.
The Red book is a must have , but the prices are usually high , you should also get the ANA Grading Guide 6th Edition , it's another must have book . rzage
This is the second time this week that, essentially, the same question has been asked. Conder101 said it best when he recommended one buy the red book and actually READ it, especially the bits in front.
Sorry, should of use the search feature, just was too excited. =P I did read portions of the book and love the extras. I did a google and i think on wizard's website that the blue book is the price you can expect to sell yours for. Is Coin Weekly more than just a price guide? I think there are a few shows in the area in the next few weeks so looking to go.
