So I recently made a submission to CAC, a member on here wanted me to send a couple coins in for them, so I made a separate submission to go along with his. Coins that I have been needing to submit for a while now. Nothing big money, I'm more of a pretty widget collector. I like inexpensive coins with great eye appeal, typically in older holders. Anyway, shown below are the 14 coins I submitted. So take a shot and see what you think passed (green bean), exceeded (gold bean) or didn't pass. I just got the results while putting this thread together.

The following are in the order that they appear on the submission form.

    1. Green ...solid coin, nice doily
    2. Gold ...looks to have great luster...borderline gold (edit: I'm going for it :D)
    3. Not CAC ...I like it but think CAC might not have liked it (no good reason why)
    4. Green ...bright, clean, nice luster
    5. Green ...bright, clean, nice luster (same as above)
    6. Not CAC ...nice holder but the obverse seems to be so-so (partial fingerprint/dark smudge?)
    7. Green ...pleasant look...I could see it not making it though (subdued luster?)
    8. Green ... lustrous, clean
    9. Gold ...it looks as nice as the 65+/66 coins I see (and on par with the NGC 65)
    10. Not CAC ...might be my interpretation, but not sure about the PL / some haze?
    11. Green ...solid 65 (although I like the 64 rattler better)
    12. Green ...pretty coin; A for the grade but not quite enough to be 2 points undergraded
    13. Green ...clean but again not enough to be 2 points too low for the gold
    14. Green ...better than the average 66s I see

...A great group and hopefully as good or better than my guesses :D

This thread does not seem to be getting to many views. Maybe I listed too many coins? I know there are those don't like CAC, but they do serve a purpose. :)

Some threads just go slowly. And 14 at the same time might discourage people. I think a good number for guess the grade is 1-3 coins. CAC sticker status only has three options, so 3-5 coins per thread might work better (just for future consideration).

To me, CAC is an enigma, both in what 'gets' a CAC, and why people bleed money for the coins with stickers. Because of that, I wouldn't even think to venture guesses, and that may also be a reason others are shying away from playing, and not because of the thread.

I think folks who have a good grasp on the CAC process will pop in and play.

IMO, those are all gorgeous coins, and it wouldn't make sense to me if any didn't get CAC'd.

Even those that believe they have a better grasp are still guessing (at least that's the case for me). Plus you have better than 1/3 odds of getting any one coin correct (only three options: None, Green, Gold...and Gold is fairly difficult to achieve).

In general terms, a coin needs to be A or B for the grade to get the Green and A or B in the next grade to get a Gold (with pluses ignored-CAC will look at a 65+ as a 65). Of course there are many nuances and some head scratchers (in all directions) which does make it difficult to ever fully know what to expect.

I'll down a couple shots before making an attempt at these. Lovely set of coins. I'll try to spend some time looking more closely at them in the morning. I hope you give everyone an extra day to evaluate them. Maybe if we get enough comments on this thread it will be in the general list tomorrow.

I'll let this one simmer over the weekend. And show the reveal on Sunday around 11:00am PST (That's West Coast Time).

That is kind of one of the reasons I figured this thread was not getting a whole lot of traction. Personally, I don't pay a premium for a coin with a CAC sticker. With that said, I prefer to have the coins I own CAC'd, because reselling in the future will typically provide me with a premium.

Those of you who knew me before my recent return, know that I like to buy older holders with what I feel are under-graded coins. I also look at newer holders and will buy them if they have strong for the grade coins, that is not nearly as frequent as the older holders. For me, it's the thrill of the hunt. Then I submit them to CAC to confirm my belief and to help out at resell time. Just 1 or 2 gold stickers easily pays for an entire submission.

I'll embarrass myself but that's fine. I don't really know anything about how CAC evaluates. What jumps out to me:
#7 from a technical standpoint looks seriously undergraded. MS63? I'd give gold bean.
Other than that, I have trouble seeing #11 as a 65 or #14 as a 66, so no bean.

#1 - Green - solid gem in a rare holder

    #2 - Green - looks to be a beautiful 66

    #3 - no sticker - looks to be a nice 65 tho

#4 - Gold - I see this as an easy green sticker 67

#5 - Green - nice luster but #4 appears to be the better luster and eye appeal

#6 - Gold - initially I thought this one wouldn’t sticker - seems like this old rare slab would have been sent already for review by CAC - I will go ahead and go for Gold though on this one and think it would green sticker as a 66

    #7 - Gold - seems to be a solid 65

#8 - no sticker - just seems like a meh almost gem walker

#9 - Green - nice Morgan - I think a few hits keep this one from getting gold

    #10 - no sticker - just seems like a nice 64PL

#11 - Green - seems like a solid 65 with original toning from the holder

#12 - Gold- I think this would Green CAC as a 65 so I’m guessing Gold on this one

#13 - Gold - I could see this one getting a Green CAC as a 66 so I’m guessing Gold on this one

#14 - Green - the reverse screams every bit of 67 but I think the obverse just barely misses the mark

    Totals:
    No CAC - 3
    Green CAC - 6
    Gold CAC -5

Here's my two cents worth (and that may be too much).

#1: I'll go with a green bean but wouldn't be surprised if it got gold. Great eye appeal and clean. I noticed one little mark in the field above the bison.

    #2 : Looks like a solid 67 so I'll go gold

#3: Definitely gold. 65 is way to low for this coin which looks 67 to me.

    #4: Solid 66 so I'll go green

    #5: green

#6: no bean due to fingerprint on obverse

#7: Looks AU58 to me so no bean

    #8: Solid 64/65; green

    #9: Looks PL; green

    #10: Solid 64; green

#11: Nice toning but low 65; no bean

    #12: Solid 64; green

#13: Solid 65; marks in field in front of face keeps it from 66 - green

#14: Looks like solid 66 - mark in obverse field keeps it from 67; green

Note: I'm not a Morgan guy (unless it's Cptn Morgan) so I'd value my opinion like the plague.

You know I don't scribe to cac's ,and because so Im out of my wheel house on this thread, but....I will say you always have had a good eye on coins, as well photographing them.
All the above specimens are winners! And I be very proud to have any of them in my collection. ......

    #1: Green
    #2: Green
#3: Green (Luster & eye appeal are great but too tough on this date for gold)
#4: Gold (That looks 67FB all day)
#5: No sticker. I went back and forth on this one, but something just seems off
    #6: Green
#7: Gold (That has to be higher than 63)
#8: Green (Overall look is higher but the sun looks banged up in that photo)
#9: Gold (That coin is gem and either PL or DMPL ta boot)
#10: Green (but weakest one so far IMO)
#11: Green (classic look of a 65 Morgan)
    #12: Green
#13: Green (Personally I would give it gold but I think JA will say Green)
    #14: Green

The only caveat I have is that your photography is so flattering that I often am high on your guess the grades threads. I am hoping that these slab photos don't sway me as much as your glam shots seem to do. Anyway, a fantastic bunch of coins and I would be very surprised if more than 1 or 2 didn't sticker. In fact, here is my bold prediction, you will get more gold stickers than no stickers.

Lot's of good guesses coming in. There have been a few who thought that the 1942-S Mercury has a fingerprint, just for clarification, it's not a fingerprint. It appears to have a light almost wood grain pattern toning on the obverse. Here is a larger image of it for those that would like a better look at it.

If anyone wants a better look at a particular coin before guessing, please feel free to ask. I will be more than happy to put up a larger image for you to examine. :)
