Is this holder genuine?

I just saw this while scrolling through the Bay. Both the holder and the coin seem off. Is it just my imagination or am I on to something?

Slab has to be counterfeit. The grade AU50 does not match the grade listed in the code. The code has the grade 53. It’s been reported.

At the very least this is enough for me to suspect this as a counterfeit slab for sure and likely also a counterfeit coin inside. There are other indications but this glaring one is what stands out to me as the most obvious.

Yeah, that’s an even worse fake than I thought. I didn’t even think to run the number. Thanks to @kSigSteve for reporting. I saw that people were bidding a lot of money on it and didn’t want someone to get ripped off.

 

I reported it but it wont happen in time. how unfortunate.

No way the OP coin is AU-50. It shows wear not consistent with an AU grade.

Someone is going to be upset when they try to re-sell it in a few years.

 

When an item is reported to Ebay like this was with clear evidence of it being fake, does EBay intervene after the sale?

Potentially yes. I'm not a fan of many of their policies but yes with a little work if you prove its a fake holder the money will come back

 

I meant if the buyer is unaware, but others (like @kSigSteve and myself) reported the listing. Somebody just dropped 900 bucks on this one.

 

Not if they don't open a claim

 

I've reported one that I believe is fake to the seller and eBay and it is still listed for months now
