Hi everyone, I know I shared mentioned this in my previous post but I think this deserves it's own thread. Earlier today the owner of my LCS gave me an old Bank of Atlanta canvas bag. This is my favorite exonumismatic item as of now; all I can wonder is what it stored and how it got to where I am. The bag was pretty dirty when I took it home. I washed it with soapy water and rinsed a lot (the water turned green ). So it's drying now, might post pics after its done. Now, what to store in it??? Please feel free to post pics of your bank bags if you have any!
Oh no! You've removed all of the "patina" from the bag. Now, it is just an old piece of canvas. Just kidding, of course. Many banks used these bags to transfer loose change to, either, their supplier of rolled coins or the regional FRB. They lost their popularity and usefulness after coin-counting machines were designed to hold ballistic bags for each denomination. Here is my collection. Most of these came from the US Mint.
What I wouldn't have given for that bag if it were full. Face value in 1931 would have been acceptable.
Since only about 125 coins of this date are thought to survive after the others were pulled back, I wonder whether this bag is the only survivor for this date.
Here's a candidate for a collection of bags. Not my merchandise, so I figure it's okay to post here . . .
