It is about that time to start thinking...

Making lists is among the collectors favorite things, right? I’m in.

I mentioned that I know it's not a contest with prizes and also I wrote a few times that the rarity/monetary value of a coin is not the biggest criteria for me when I decide what coins I add in my collection.

I only started collecting coins in 2020 and I have about 20 coins. I tried to be eclectic with my choices so I think I can come up with a top 10 of coins worth showing again, the only problem is that for many of them my poor photos don't do them justice. Perhaps it would be a nice opportunity to try and re-photograph them.

I didn't post a top 10 last year, which was my first year of collecting, but I think I'm in a good place to do a list this year. It gave me a lot of pleasure reading everyone's write ups last year.

I wont be making one thanks to Roma & Fed ex.
My plan for this year was to start picking up a few iconic Greek types, just dipping my toe in the water & seeing where it leads me.
Sadly my first purchase in April went missing at Fed ex & 7 months later ( 5 missing ) Roma still have not sorted it out nor do they seem the slightest bit bothered.
Due to postal issues my coin was initially put into lockdown so i decided at that point not to make further purchases until it arrived, once it went missing that changed to " until matter resolved "
I will be shocked if this changes before 2021.

My apologies for the crappy post but, i needed to get it off my chest as 2020 has been a joyless year as far as collecting is concerned :sour::sour:

I didn't realize that this was an annual thing here. (I joined at the end of January.) I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I've probably bought close to 100 ancient coins this year, and have already gone well past my self-imposed annual budget. So I doubt I'll be buying many more over the next six weeks; certainly none that are very expensive. I like them all, of course -- otherwise I wouldn't have bought them! -- so it's going to be very difficult to narrow it down to only 10. (I'm not even going to try to rank the 10 I choose.) But I can already guess that the majority will be Roman Republican coins.

Crikey I haven’t even gotten around to my best of 2019 list :)

Only about 10 new coins in 2020 but added some good ones and eyeing a few more before year’s end

There's nothing mandatory : you don't have to have a list of ten. In the past years, because of slowing down my purchases and being more selective, I've had several "top 6" and even a "top 3" last year.

    Try again :)

There is nothing magical about the ten. My first one in 2013 was only a Top Five but ten has become more a standard number. To me, the important part is a short explanation about what it was that made that coin special. If you bought it because your cat walked across the keyboard and it turned out the cat has better tastes than you do, tell the story.

I was hoping for one more auction this year but the one I was watching has left me in the dirt so my ten is unlikely to change. Still it is too early to post but I doubt that I am the only one hoping for a better 2021 in more ways than the coins.

I found it interesting to go back and see how I feel now about the coins in the old lists. I even sold one of my #1 coins but that was because I upgraded it (few would agree that it was an upgrade but I liked the new one better). I don't remember how the lists got started here but it has been one of my favorite parts of CT.

I wonder if the idea of the lists would lend itself to Zoom meetings. I hear they are free on Thanksgiving but always free if there are only two participants. I guess I found the Zoom idea more attractive than most in the hobby.
