I picked these up. First pic $62 and second $37. That included shipping and 9% auction fee. For 4 coins I feel it was a good deal. I will post better pics when I get the coins.
Thanks, for the price I thought they were pretty good. Nice addition to the collection. Prob a good thing there was rarer coins people were trying to get and I snagged these.
Very nice. I went on a Gallienus and Salonina bender a few years ago and obtained a couple dozen of her coins. Those are nice examples for the type.
~$25 per coin. I'd say you did pretty well for yourself. Looking forward to seeing non-scan pictures when you get them
I bid on 30 and most went well over $100. I set max bids at $66 for the 2 coin ones, surprized no one came in last min and got them. Maybe they are not as rare or cheeper other places. I got to get that sear coin value book. Does everyone think the prices in it are fair market values?
..i can't tell....i make scrooge look loose with his money BEFORE the spirits haunt him......25 bucks a coin..no, that's purdy good...
Good. Reminds me of my first lots of denarii (4 coins and 8 coins). I was also pleased that I got them below my expectation price.
Congratulations. Looks like you're off to a good start. Past prices are very easy to check: go to a bidding portal such as Biddr, click 'past auctions', choose an auction, and you can view all lots and the price they fetched in that auction. Easy...
Even in the most recent 5-volume edition, the Sear prices are 10-20 years out of date. They still give an indication of comparative value, though. But I don't use Sear for prices.
Also the CNG online archive is free and gives past prices for CNG auctions, going back 15 years or so.
You paid nearly twice as much for one pair as for the other. Do you believe those proportions were correct or did you get a better deal on one than the other? Why? Auctions are opinions. I would have expected the realizations to have been reversed with the two denarii going higher than the two Saloninas.
I think the final price went low on the denari because other biders were trying to get other coins. There was only 1 or 2 other bidders for both and they must of not had a max bid set or it was low if they did.
True! Seems ERIC-II is the only book that has upto date auction records/ added new info on before "unknown" Emperors/ Empresses. A good example is that Constans II (older texts) is now Constans III! Plus Theodosius III (son of Maurice Tiberius) was missing. Heritage has a MS Solidi from both Theodosius III/ and Mezezius in MS*!
