I have been wondering, are the silver dimes, and quarters worth much more than face value? and if so, what years should i be looking for?
Dimes and quarters were made of 90% silver up to 1964. The silver in them makes them worth more than face value, but if fluctuates depending on the current price of silver per ounce. I think it's generally around four or five times face value. If you sold them to a dealer, he'd probably offer you about 70% of that. This is the bullion worth of the coin, and does not include any numismatic value a coin may have.
bluegill has it. for common date coin silver - this is a good rule of thumb, or at least it is from my experience. exceptional condition or better dates will, of course, be more - in some cases, much more.
About $7.00 a ounce...but it changes all the time so you might want to check here.... www.coinworld.com It will show on the right hand side. Speedy
