Hi everyone! I would appreciate some recommendations of dealers who sell slabbed (NGC/PCGS) world coins in the $100-2000 range and have reasonable photos available online. Looking for dealers who have their own site rather than use Ebay/MA-Shops/V-Coins. Thank you in advance for any suggestions!
I am a big fan of @ma-shops but you won't find much slabbed stuff there. Here are some places that I use. https://atlasnumismatics.com/ High end/high prices https://fubacoins.com/ Not a lot of slabbed stuff but his prices are always reasonable https://karlstephensinc.com/ Another one that doesn't do a lot of graded stuff but the prices are always reasonable. I have found that Karl always under grades his raw material. At least when compared to the TPG's. He sends out a quarterly list that I look forward to. www.ha.com Heritage has a weekly world/ancients auction if you like the competition http://www.stacksbowers.com Less frequent world coin auctions. Both of the above sell direct as well. That is just the first ones I think of.
Be carefull though with TPG coins. If you are going after "hammered material" a "slabbed" NGC/ PGGS MS-64= EF/Vorz/Supberb/Spl. in European auctions Milled coins are graded more in line with UK/European standards. Even though you said you don't want eBay, in terms of US sources that will be the biggest source and a mistake to ignore. Great Collections is good too.
I just sold some of my world coins thru Great Collections. Happy with their service and realized prices. Their head honcho posted above, @greatcollection. What countries are you looking for? This is JMHO, but when it comes to slabbed foreign coins, I stick to NGC. I'm likely opening up myself to abuse, but I think the PCGS Norway coins I've examined/viewed online are way over-graded compared to NGC (I primarily collect Norwegian commemoratives, and every one of them is in an NGC holder). As @panzerman stated, the Europeans are usually far more conservative than us in the USA. My coin contacts in Norway would laugh at some of the PCGS-graded coins I've seen lately. Steve
@Chris B @Libby007 @mdwoods - thank you for you excellent suggestions. @greatcollection I understand there are people who enjoy the thrill of bidding at auctions. I've gotten outbid so many times I'm just sick of the process. @Stevearino - Japan, Korea, USSR, Great Britain, Papal States, Australia, Ethiopia. @baseball21 - You're right. Of late the stuff I've been getting I've seen on eBay, but then you can buy it off the dealer's own site without the eBay commission.
True, but it's not always available that way either and many don't have their own site. If they do that's the best way, but it also limits what you can get
Also there is AuctionWorld/ Japan. But their auction seem to realize insane prices/ good for sellers/ not so for bidders But then coin prices are truly going crazy.
Based on recent bidding that would seem to be the case. Coin fairs have been cancelled. Quite a few dealers are saying they're having trouble getting stock.
