Had my fourth day off (freezing rain) since April 30th, so I ended up paying way too much for a 1884-M sovereign from Coin Cabinet Auction. Won it for 1000UK Pounds/ no fees
I have no idea what these go for, but all of us get caught up in bidding wars. I think many more than usual are doing it this year due to prices I am seeing. I think the whole coin collecting world is bored at home....
The thrill of the chase. I have several coins in my collection I got after a bidding war that I paid too much for. Still I am happy with the coins. If you are happy with the acquisition then the price was just right.
Recently, on different auctions, I have had both "buyer's remorse" and "loser's remorse." To me, losing a bid that I may have won for a few dollars more, stays with me longer. Even though I know down-deep that a few more bucks may not, or probably would not have won the prize. I keep thinking . . .I could have had it.
I got outbid many times these days that I ended up with just an AU58 sovereign. Got carried away, and should wait for an MS.
You can just never tell with auctions... Some days you're the windshield and some days you're the bug. Last year I lost out on an auction for a contemporary counterfeit. I've bid what I THOUGHT was a pretty strong 150 bucks for it and got blown out at 170. Another one popped up about 10 days ago... I put in a $35 bid because as long as you're a bidder flea Bay will keep reminding you. With an hour to go I walked it up to where I was the high bidder at $66.10 figured somebody would come along and snipe at the end. So I put a nuclear 170 bid on it. Clock runs out no snipe... You just can never tell about auctions
