This was a little nicer than the florins I have, so I picked it up for $15. The front is a bit dinged up, but I'm happy with the detail on the reverse. Looks like it may have been cleaned, though. For contrast, some of my junk silver florins and 1/2 crowns from the 1990s:
If your budget allows, I strongly suggest taking a look at the 1902-1910 Edward VII florins. The reverse has one of the most beautiful versions of Britannia I've ever seen. https://coinquest.com/cgi-bin/cq/coins.pl?coin=2670
I actually made a custom Dansco album for these dating from 1893 to 1970. Florins are certainly a fun denomination to collect, but they sure get more cost-prohibitive the further back you go. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/custom-dansco-great-britain-florins-1893-1970.345977/
I don't think I have any florins before Victoria, but they are beautiful coins. I do have a 1653 Commonwealth half crown that was erroneously sold as a sixpence. Probably the only reason it was in my price range! I'll have to keep an eye out for an Edward VII one too, thanks.
Found another florin in my collection: Victoria, 1883 Gothic Maybe slightly better than the other one I posted, but still rather worn. From the handwriting on the 2x2... I have no idea when or where I bought this for $10.
I really love these Gothics and congratulate you on this one. Occasionally decent specimens turn up at reasonable prices, so keep eyes open!
