I saw this one up for auction and noticed what looks like doubling on the right side of the obverse.

    What are your thoughts.

That could be a clash mark. What's the reverse look like?

It does look like a die clash mark but there's nothing on the obverse that would match it (the area on the obverse opposite it would be in the area between the shield and the eagle's wing on the right). The only other likely cause is a planchet defect.

If you flip the reverse it looks like a die clash from the area between the shield and the wing.

What is the reverse there referencing?

I don't think that it is a Die Clash from that area! It is either from damage to the Die or a planchet flaw.

The toned reverse is not the reverse of this coin.

Attached is the coin with the reverse overlayed. You can see that the mark on the obverse matches the eagles wing perfectly. Is this a die clash?

Correct me if I am wrong but I think that a die clash is damage to the die.

Would NGC attribute this? IS it worth more than a non clashed example?

I agree if the coin is a Half Dollar! In my previous post with pics, I was going on the assumption and picture of the Reverse that the coin was in fact a Quarter Dollar. I should have done a little more research before posting!

    1. I doubt that they would attribute this on the slab as it is fairly insignificant! 2. Probably little if any and in fact, some folks might pay a premium while others would want to pay less! It really depends on the Collector!

Don't know why I assumed the coin was a Quarter. With the pictures of the correct Half Dollar reverse, I fully agree that it's a die clash.

About the only time a die clash has value is if it is REALLY excessive, or if it is a clash of two mismatched dies.
